Category: Formulas that Stabilise and Bind

Pattern: Heart Qi and Yin deficiency

Key Symptoms: Night sweats and restless sleep

Bai Zi Ren 6g
Zhi Ban Xia 6g
Mu Li 3g
Ren Shen 3g
Ma Huang Gen 3g
Bai Zhu 3g
Wu Wei Zi 3g
Fu Xiao Mai 1.5g

In the UK Mu Li must be substituted with either Wu Wei Zi (already in the formula), Bai Shao and Xuan Shen, or Tian Ma. The first three make most sense in this instance unless there is internal Wind stirring. If calcium deficiency is suspected to be the rationale for using Mu Li then supplementation may be a suggestion.

It may also be necessary to monitor the amount of Ma Huang used as UK legal restrictions limit the dose to 1.8g per day and 0.6g per dose. Assuming "small pills" are 1g each then the above doses would make approx one dose requiring Ma Huang to be reduced to 0.6g and supplemented with other ingredients.

Preparation: Ground into powder and made into small pills by mixing with the flesh of Da Zao. 30-50 pills are taken on an empty stomach with rice broth.

Actions: Tonifies Qi, nourishes the Heart, secures the Exterior, stops sweating.
