Bao Yuan Tang

Preserve the Primal Decoction

Category: Formulas that Tonify Qi

Pattern: Deficiency consumption with insufficient Yuan Qi

Key Symptoms: Fatigue and lethargy, shortness of breath, aversion to cold, low-grade fever
Secondary Symptoms: Epigastric pain, vomiting and diarrhoea


Ingredients

Huang Qi 9g
Ren Shen 3g
Zhi Gan Cao 3g
Rou Gui 1.5-2.1g


Preparation: Decocted with a handful of glutinous rice.


Actions: Tonifies the Qi and warms the Yang



Notes:
Originally used for smallpox with deficient Qi characterised by a pox-like rash with recessed heads.
