Gua Lou Xie Bai Bai Jiu Tang

Category: Formulas that Regulate Qi

Pattern: Lack of chest Yang causing formation of Phlegm and blockage

Key Symptoms: Pain the chest that often radiates to the upper back, wheezing, cough with copious sputum, shortness of breath

Tongue: Thick, greasy coating
Pulse: Submerged or wiry and tight



Ingredients
Gua Lou 12g
Xie Bai 9-12g
Bai Jiu 30-60ml



Preparation: Decoction. Often prepared with equal amounts of wine and water although the original version called for 1 piece of Gua Lou, 1/2 Sheng of Xie Bai (about 100ml) and 7 Sheng of Bai Jiu (1.4L), decocted together until 2 Sheng (400ml) remain.

Actions: Unblocks the Yang, promotes the movement of Qi, expels Phlegm
