Ma Xing Shi Gan Tang

Category: Formulas that Clear Heat

Pattern: Heat lodged in the Lungs

Key Symptoms: Viscous and difficult to expectorate sputum, fever with or without sweating, thirst, wheezing, laboured breathing, nasal flaring and pain

Tongue: Yellow coat
Pulse: Slippery, rapid

Ma Huang 12g
Shi Gao 24g
Xing Ren 18g
Gan Cao 6g

In the UK Shi Gao must be substituted, possibly with Zhi Mu.

Preparation: Decoction.

Actions: Facilitates the flow of Lung Qi, clears Heat, calms wheezing and directs rebellious Qi downwards

Contraindications: Wheezing due to Cold and lingering pathogens due to deficiency
