Ren Shen Hua Ban Tang

Ginseng Decoction to Transform Maculae

Category: Formulas that Clear Heat

Pattern: Severe Qi level Heat extending to the Blood level

Key Symptoms: Macular rashes and a sensation of insects crawling on the skin

Tongue: Yellow tongue coating
Pulse: Rapid


Ingredients

Ren Shen 9g
Shi Gao 30g
Zhi Mu 7.5g
Zi Cao 9g
Fu Ling 9g
Dang Gui 9g
Gan Cao 9g

Subsitutions:
In the UK several herbs must be substituted:
Shi Gao should be substituted with other Qi level Heat clearing herbs like Huang Qin, Lian Qiao, Zhi Zi and Dan Zhu Ye. If Blood Heat is strong then Sheng Di Huang or Xuan Shen may be more appropriate.
Zi Cao is also prohibited for internal use due to fears over pyrrolizidine alkaloids. It may be substituted with herbs that can clear Heat from the skin like Lian Qiao and Da Qing Ye.


Preparation: Decoction.


Actions: Clears Heat, directs fire downwards, cools the Qi and Blood
