Shen Fu Tang

Ginseng and Aconite Decoction

Category: Formulas that Warm Interior Cold

Pattern: Cold inversion (sudden collapse of Yang, or Yang abandonment)

Key Symptoms: Cold extremities, sweating, weak breathing and shortness of breath
Secondary Symptoms: Dizziness, extremely pale

Tongue: Pale
Pulse: Faint
Abdomen: Lacking in tone, cold and sweaty

Ren Shen 9-12g
Zhi Fu Zi 9-15g

Neither substance can be substituted for a cheaper or, in the case of Fu Zi, a more legal (in the UK) alternative.

Preparation: Decoction.

Actions: Restores the Yang, strongly tonifies the Source Qi, rescues the Qi from collapse due to devastated Yang

Contraindications: other types of abandonment disorders (Qi, Blood, Yin)
