Suan Zao Ren Jiu

Pattern: Foot Qi stagnation, Heart Blood and Yin deficiency agitating the Shen

Key Symptoms: Aching and pain of the foot, rough skin, low mood, anxiety and insomnia



Ingredients
Suan Zao Ren 30g
Huang Qi 30g
Tian Men Dong 20g
Chi Fu Ling 30g
Fang Feng 20g
Du Huo 20g
Huo Ma Ren 100g
Rou Gui 20g
Wu Jia Pi 50g
Niu Xi 50g
Ling Yan Jiao 6g
Pu Tao 50g
Bai Jiu 1.95L

Subsitutions:
Bai Jiu (white alcohol) traditionally means distilled rice wine but can be substituted with any clear 40% spirit.
Ling Yan Jiao (Saiga antelope horn) is endangered and usually replaced with Shan Yang Jiao (goat horn). In the UK both must be substituted. The usual replacement is Gou Teng and Mu Dan Pi.



Preparation: Pound the herbs in a pestle to break them up and soak them in 1.95L of alcohol in a sealed jar for 7 days and discard the dregs. Drink warm before eating each morning, noon and night in no fixed amount.

Actions: Nourishes the five Zang, moistens the skin and muscles, treats Foot Qi.

Contraindications: Damp-Heat conditions and long term use due to the harmful effects on continuous alcohol consumption.
