Pattern: Blood stasis in the lower abdomen

Key Symptoms: Irregular menstruation, painful menstruation (with pain in the abdomen or lower back), blood stasis abdominal accumulations, amenorrhoea or postpartum or post-miscarriage bleeding or pain.


Ingredients
Mu Dan Pi 6g
Gui Zhi 5g
Dang Gui 6-9g
Tao Ren 6-9g
Yan Hu Suo 6-9g
Niu Xi 6-9g
Hong Hua 3-6g
Chuan Xiong 6g
Chi Shao 6-9g



Preparation: Decoction.

Actions: Transforms accumulations and dispels stasis, nourishes and invigorates the Blood, adjusts the menses, relieves pain.

Contraindications: Pregnancy. If using for long term use should be alternated with a tonic formula or modified with tonifying ingredients.



Notes:
Was originally used to treat discharge of clotted blood during the second and third trimester of pregnancy and so used half the minimum dosages to prevent miscarriage but this usage is now contraindicated.

Similar to Niu Xi San but with slightly more focus on dispelling Blood stasis than moving Qi.
