Dioscorea Decoction to Leach Out Dampness

Category: Formulas that Treat Abscesses and Sores

Pattern: Weeping skin lesions due to Damp-Heat with Blood Stasis pouring down into the Lower Jiao

Key Symptoms: Skin lesions with profuse fluid discharge
Secondary Symptoms: Fever, thirst, dry mouth with no desire to drink, anorexia, heavy body heavy with tired limbs, fullness in chest, lump in epigastrium, leukorrhagia with thick yellowish foul discharge, frequent scanty reddish urination

Tongue: Red with yellow, greasy coat
Pulse: Slippery and rapid


Ingredients

Bi Xie 9-20g
Yi Yi Ren 20-30g
Hua Shi 15-30g
Fu Ling 9-12g
Huang Bai 9g
Mu Dan Pi 9g
Ze Xie 9g
Tong Cao 6g

Subsitutions:
In the UK Hua Shi must be substituted. The usual substitutes are already in the formula so others should be sought depending on the presentation. Cang Zhu and Niu Xi would seem like suitable candidates, adding Si Miao San to the formula. Ku Shen and Bai Xian Pi might also be suitable providing the Spleen is strong.


Preparation: Decoction.


Actions: Clears Heat, eliminates Dampness, invigorates Blood and resolves Toxicity
