Pattern: Hot Joint Deformity Impediment Disorder with Kidney Yang Deficiency causing Cold contraction leading to severe Heat

Key Symptoms: Joint swelling and pain with no fear of cold, a preference for not covering the affected part when sleeping at night, yet after a prolonged period this aggravates the pain
Secondary Symptoms: Five palm heat, low grade fever, dry throat, toothache and constipation

Tongue: Yellow coating with a red body
Pulse: Fine and rapid with a small rear position


Ingredients

Sheng Di Huang 15-25g
Sang Ji Sheng 20-30g
Sang Zhi 30g
Di Gu Pi 10-15g
Huang Bai 12g (wine-soaked)
Zhi Mu 12g
Xu Duan 15-18g
Gu Sui Bu 15-18g
Bai Shao 15g
Wei Ling Xian 12-15g
Qiang Huo 9g
Du Huo 9g
Luo Shi Teng 20-30g
Gui Zhi 6-9g
Hong Hua 9g
Ru Xiang 6g
Mo Yao 6g
Zhi Shan Jia 9g
Hu Gu 12g

Subsitutions:
In the UK several ingredients must be substituted. These include:

Shan Jia == Mu Dan Pi
Hu Gu == Wu Jia Pi


Preparation: Decoction.


Actions: Supplements the Kidney and clears Heat, expels Wind and Transforms Dampness, Invigorates the Blood and Dispels Stasis, strengthens the Sinews and Bones



Notes:
The translation of this formula is taken from Jiao Shu-De's book in English although it more literally translates as "Kidney Supplementing, Heat Clearing, Cure the Lame Decoction".
