Nei Bu Dang Gui Jian Zhong Tang

Internally Tonifying Tangkuei Decoction to Construct the Middle

Pattern: Post-partum Middle Jiao Deficient and Cold

Key Symptoms: Post-partum emaciation and weakness with persistent tight abdominal pain, shortness of breath, reduced appetite, dry lips and mouth, a wan complexion and reduced breast milk.


Ingredients

Dang Gui 12g
Shao Yao 18g
Rou Gui 9g
Gan Cao 6g
Sheng Jiang 18g
Da Zao 10pc

Subsitutions:
For severe deficiency add 18g of Yi Tang into the strained decoction. In cases of severe blood loss or post-partum bleeding add 18g of Shu Di Huang and 6g of E Jiao (or Er Zhi Wan in the UK). Huang Qi can also be added to improve the Spleen's ability to produce Blood, and by halving the amount of Dang Gui to 6g and adding 30g of Huang Qi, Dang Gui Bu Xue Tang can be easily incorporated into the formula.


Preparation: Decoction.


Actions: Warms and Middle Jiao, tonifies deficiency, relaxes hypertonicity, stops pain
