Ren Shen Ge Jie San

Ginseng and Gecko Powder

Category: Formulas that Tonify Qi

Pattern: Lung and Kidney Qi deficiency with Phlegm-Heat collecting internally

Key Symptoms: Chonic coughing and wheezing, thick yellow sputum, coughing of pus and blood
Secondary Symptoms: A sensation of heat and irritability in the chest, facial oedema, gradual emaciation

Tongue: Purple body with thin white or greasy, thin yellow coating
Pulse: Floating and deficient, especially in the distal position


Ingredients

Ge Jie 2pc
Ren Shen 60g
Fu Ling 60g
Sang Bai Pi 60g
Xing Ren 180g
Chuan Bei Mu 60g
Zhi Mu 60g
Zhi Gan Cao 150g

Subsitutions:
In the UK Ge Jie must be substituted, usually with Hu Tao Ren and Bu Gu Zhi.


Preparation: Grind the ingredients into a fine powder and keep in a ceramic vessel and taken throughout the day like tea. At present it is usually taken in 3-6g doses with warm water twice per day on an empty stomach.


Actions: Tonifies the Qi, augments the Kidney Jing, stops coughing, arrests wheezing

Contraindications: Any incidence of an externally contracted pathogenic influence.
