San Shi Tang

Three Minerals Decoction

Category: Formulas that Dispel Summerheat

Pattern: Qi level Summerheat and Warm Pathogen Disorders with Heat flooding the San Jiao

Key Symptoms: Fever, a red face, focal distention, a stifling sensation in the chest

Tongue: Fresh red body with a thin, yellow, slippery coating


Ingredients

Hua Shi 9g
Shi Gao 15g
Han Shui Shi 9g
Xing Ren 9g
Zhu Ru 6g
Jin Yin Hua 9g
Tong Cao 6g
Jin Zhi 200ml

Subsitutions:
Jin Zhi (Succus Faecalis Aureus - obtained by burying human faeces in a clay pot for 3 years and extracting the clear water it produces) is no longer used and usually substituted with Da Qing Ye or Huang Lian.

In the UK, due to the prohibition on mineral products means that the three principal substances, Hua Shi, Shi Gao and Han Shui Shi, must be replaced. A possible suggestion is:
Drain Damp-Heat: Chi Fu Ling + Ze Xie
Clear Summerheat: Xiang Ru + Bai Bian Dou
Clear Qi level Heat and protect the fluids: Zhi Mu


Preparation: Decocted with 5 cups of water until 2 remain. This is divided into two portions and consumed warm.


Actions: Clears Heat with acrid and cooling herbs and transforms Turbidity with aromatic herbs
