Shi Shen Tang

Ten Miracle Decoction

Category: Formulas that Release the Exterior

Pattern: Epidemic Disorders and Wind-Cold Patterns presenting with Qi Stagnation. Sometimes also used for Wind-Cold-Damp Bi.

Key Symptoms: Headache, stifling oppression and focal distention of the chest, absence of sweating, fever, cough, nasal congestion and a low voice.
Secondary Symptoms: Painful joints

Tongue: Thin and white


Ingredients

Ma Huang 6g
Sheng Ma 6-9g
Chi Shao 6-9g
Bai Zhi 6g
Chuan Xiong 6g
Zhi Gan Cao 6g
Chen Pi 6-9g
Zi Su Ye 6-9g
Xiang Fu 6-9g
Ge Gen 12-18g

Subsitutions:
If taken in its original form this should be below the maximum legal dose of 0.6g/dose or 1.8g/day for Ma Huang but it may have to have increased dosages of Zi Su Ye and maybe add Jing Jie if it needs to be reduced or removed.


Preparation: Ground into a course powder and used in 10g doses each time. Decoct with a large cup of water and 5 slices of Sheng Jiang until 70% of the liquid remains. Remove the dregs and drink while still hot. Can be prepared as a decoction with the dosages given.


Actions: Releases Pathogens from the Exterior, regulates the Qi, disseminated Lung Qi and relieves cough
