Category: Formulas that Warm Interior Cold

Pattern: Middle Jiao disharmony with Cold congealing and Blood Stasis

Key Symptoms: Stabbing epigastric pain that is fixed location and may be worse at night and worse with exposure to cold, nausea and vomiting

Tongue: Lips and tongue are dark or have stasis macules
Pulse: Sunken and slightly stringlike


Ingredients

Gao Liang Jiang 6-10g
Xiang Fu 6-10g
Bai He 30g
Wu Yao 9-12g
Dan Shen 30g
Tan Xiang 6-9g (add near end)
Sha Ren 3-5g
Wu Ling Zhi 9-12g
Pu Huang 6-10g (wrapped in gauze)

Subsitutions:
In the UK Wu Ling Zhi must be substituted with Yan Hu Suo and Lian Fang.


Preparation: Decoction.


Actions: Warms the Middle Jiao, harmonises the Stomach, unbinds the Liver and transforms Stagnation, Regulates Qi and invigorates Blood Stasis



Notes:
This formula is a combination of four other separate formulas: Liang Fu Wan, Bai He Tang, Dan Shen Yin and Shi Xiao San.
