Tan Yin Wan

Phlegm and Thin Mucus Pill

Pattern: Cough due to Phlegm-Cold

Key Symptoms: Coughing of thin sputum, all symptoms made worse by cold
Secondary Symptoms: Stertorous breathing

Tongue: White coating


Ingredients

Cang Zhu 90g
Bai Zhu 90g
Lai Fu Zi 90g
Rou Gui 30g
Gan Jiang 30g
Fu Zi 45g
Gan Cao 45g
Zi Su Zi 60g

Subsitutions:
In the UK Fu Zi must be substituted. The typical substitutes, Rou Gui and Gan Jiang, are already in the formula so their dosages could be increased. Some other herbs which warm the Interior and expel Cold could be considered too depending on the presentation such as Ba Jiao Hui Xiang which as anti-flu effects or Hu Tao Ren that tonifies Yang, resolves Cold-Phlegm, arrests wheezing and assists the Kidneys to grasp the Lung Qi, possibly combined with Bu Gu Zhi.


Preparation: Ground into a fine powder and made into pills with water. Normal dosage is 6g taken twice daily.


Actions: Warms the Lungs, disperses Cold, regulates the Qi and transforms Phlegm.
