Unblock the Stomach Opening Decoction

Pattern: Pyloric obstruction due damage to Stomach Qi and Yin causing up-rushing of Qi and Qi that can move neither up nor down.

Key Symptoms: Difficulty swallowing and constipation


Ingredients

Tao Ren 0.3g
Hong Hua 0.3g
Sheng Di Huang 1.5g
Shu Di Huang 1.5g
Dang Gui 3g
Zhi Gan Cao 3g
Sheng Ma 3g


Preparation: Grind the herbs into a powder and prepare as a draft. Take before meals.

In Secrets from the Orchid Chamber the same author advises adding 1.5g of finely ground Bing Lang. In the UK this has to be substituted with Zhi Shi and Yu Li Ren and so may be omitted if constipation is not an issue, or added if this is a significant symptom.


Actions: Nourishes the Blood, moistens Dryness, lifts the clear Qi upward, directs the turbid downward.
