Ingredients

Da Huang 12g
Ren Shen 6g
Gan Cao 6g
Gan Jiang 6g
Zhi Fu Zi 9g

Subsitutions:
In the UK Fu Zi must be substituted. The standard substitution would be Rou Gui and an increased dose of Gan Jiang but other Yang tonics, substances that warm Interior Cold and help purge the bowel could be considered. If the presentation is constipation then Rou Cong Rong or Suo Yang could be considered. If diarrhoea then herbs like Yi Zhi Ren or Bu Gu Zhi may seem appropriate but may also contradict the intention of the formula to purge the accumulation. Some modified versions in the source text include Dang Gui and Mang Xiao so these (or their substitutes could also be considered for a stronger purgative effect.

Preparation: Decoction. Add Da Huang near the end.

Actions: Warms and Tonifies Spleen Yang and purges Cold accumulation.

Contraindications: Constipation due to Interior Heat with clumping and damage to body fluids.
