Wu Hu Zhui Feng San

Five Tiger Powder to Pursue Wind

Category: Formulas that Expel Wind

Pattern: Muscular tetany due to Wind and Toxin invading the body through a wound or ulceration.

Key Symptoms: Stiffness and spasms of the jaw, muscle twitches and rigidity of the body to the point of opisthotonos.


Ingredients

Chan Tui 30g
Zhi Tian Nan Xing 6g
Tian Ma 6g
Bai Jiang Can 6g (dry-fried)
Quan Xie 3g

Subsitutions:
Most of this formula needs to be substituted in the UK which may make another formula like Yu Zhen San more appropriate despite it focusing more on expelling Wind and less on stopping spasms.


Preparation: Decocted and mixed with 60ml of yellow wine and 1.5g of Zhu Sha. This last ingredient is no longer used due to its heavy metal content.

It should induce sweating on the palms, soles and sternum. If it deos not occur it should be administered for another 3 days.


Actions: Eliminates Wind-Phlegm, relieves spasms and twitches, alleviates pain
