Category: Formulas that Dispel Phlegm

Pattern: Phlegm nodules that are firm and rubbery due to constrained Liver Fire consuming Liver and Kidney Yin

Key Symptoms: Nodules on the neck that are firm and rubbery in consistency
Secondary Symptoms: Dry mouth and throat

Tongue: Red
Pulse: Rapid and slippery or wiry


Ingredients

Xuan Shen 120g
Mu Li 120g
Bei Mu 120g

Subsitutions:
In the UK Mu Li must be substituted with increased Xuan Shen, Bai Shao and Wu Wei Zi.


Preparation: Ground into powder and formed into pill with honey to take in 9g doses 2-3 times per day. Can also be prepared as a decoction with 9-12g of each ingredient. Zhe Bei Mu is preferred over Chuan Bei Mu in this instance.


Actions: Clears Heat, transforms Phlegm, softens hardness, disperses clumping

Contraindications: Congealing due to Cold and ulcerated or ulcerated nodules.



Notes:
This formula treats nodules from scrofula (Luo Li) on the side of the neck or goitre (Ying) on the midline of the neck.
