Drain the Yellow Powder

Category: Formulas that Clear Heat

Pattern: Lurking Fire in the Spleen

Key Symptoms: Mouth ulcers, bad breath, thirst, frequent hunger, dry mouth and lips

Tongue: Red body. There may be tongue thrusting in children.
Pulse: Rapid


Ingredients

Shi Gao 15g
Zhi Zi 3g
Fang Feng 120g (dry fried)
Huo Xiang 21g
Gan Cao 90g

Subsitutions:
In the UK Shi Gao must be substituted. Zhi Mu and/or Huang Lian will suffice in this instance but be aware that Huang Lian will also be drying.


Preparation: Grind the ingredients in to a powder, toast lightly with honey and wine and take as a draft in 3-6g doses. It may also be prepared as a decoction with a reduction in dosage.


Actions: Clears lurking Fire from the Spleen and Stomach.

Contraindications: Stomach Yin deficiency and tongue thrusting due to congenital Qi deficiency.
