Category: Formulas that Reduce Food Stagnation

Pattern: Food Stagnation, or Sudden Turmoil with inability to vomit or defecate.

Key Symptoms: Indigestion or Sudden Turmoil with severe abdominal pain with inability to vomit or defecate, or ingestion of poisonous substances
Secondary Symptoms: Unconscious syndromes caused by overeating or Liver Qi Stagnation


Ingredients

Shi Yan


Preparation: Dissolve a large amount of Shi Yan (salt) in 3 bowls of hot water until it is extremely concentrated. Make the patient take 1 bowl while warm, and repeat with additional doses until all the stagnant food or poisonous substances are removed via vomiting.


Actions: Induces vomiting of Stagnant Food or Poisonous Substances

Contraindications: Inducing vomiting is not recommended today as a therapeutic strategy, even in the event of ingestion of poisonous substances with the current advice being to get the patient to hospital.
