Yu Nu Jian

Jade Woman Decoction

Category: Formulas that Clear Heat

Pattern: Kidney Yin deficiency with vigorous Stomach Fire; Zhong Xiao 中消, Xiao Ke due to Stomach Fire

Key Symptoms: Toothache, loose teeth, bleeding gums, frontal headache, irritability and fever, thirst with a desire to drink cold beverages

Tongue: Dry red tongue with yellow coating
Pulse: Floating, slippery, deficient and large


Ingredients

Shi Gao 6-15g
Sheng Di Huang 9-30g
Zhi Mu 4.5-6g
Mai Men Dong 6g
Niu Xi 4.5g

Subsitutions:
In the UK Shi Gao must be substituted. There are no really suitable substitutes so Zhi Mu should be set at the higher range. Yin tonics that clear empty heat could also be considered.


Preparation: Decoction. At present the dosage of Shi Gao is usually at 15-30g. Take either warm or cool.


Actions: Drains heat from the Stomach and nourishes the Yin

Contraindications: Diarrhoea
