Zhu Ye Yu Nu Jian

Category: Formulas that Clear Heat

Pattern: Warm Pathogen disorders in women that occur at the onset of menstruation

Key Symptoms: Tinnitus, dry retching, thirst, irritability

Tongue: Dry red tongue with yellow coating
Pulse: Floating, slippery, deficient and large


Ingredients

Shi Gao 6-15g
Shu Di Huang 9-30g
Zhi Mu 4.5-6g
Mai Men Dong 6g
Niu Xi 4.5g
Dan Zhu Ye 6g

Subsitutions:
In the UK Shi Gao must be substituted. There are no really suitable substitutes so Zhi Mu should be set at a higher dose and other Yin tonics that clear Heat could also be considered.


Preparation: Decoction. At present the dosage of Shi Gao is usually at 15-30g. Take either warm or cool.


Actions: Drains heat from the Stomach and nourishes the Yin

Contraindications: Diarrhoea
