Traditional Actions/Indications:
  1. Clears Heat and promotes urination
    Heat binding in the Bladder, inhibited urination, stangury-turbidity, bloody urine
    Leucorrhoea, vaginal discharge
    Summerheat-Damp diarrhoea
    Jaundice, oedema
  2. Cools Blood and resolves Toxicity
    External bleeding, nosebleed
    Swelling toxins of welling abscesses and sores
    Sore throat
  3. Improves vision
    Swelling and pain of eye
  4. Dispels Phlegm
    Cough

Suggested Daily Dosage: 9-30g in decoction.


Notes:

Plantago major is known as Da Che Qian while P. depressa is known as Ping Che Qian but all posses the same functions. P. lanceolata is known as Chang Ye Che Qian and the main type used in western herbalism but shares most of the same functions, being used in Austria as a syrup or tea for cough medicine, or applied externally for disorders of the respiratory tract, skin, insect bites, and infections.
