Properties: Bitter, astringent, slightly warm

Traditional Actions/Indications:
  1. Astringes, stops bleeding and resolves Toxicity
    Diarrhoea, dysentery, blood in the stool
    Red, swollen breasts or testicles
    Vaginal prolapse, bleeding haemorrhoids, infantile hernia
    Unhealing ulcer

Suggested Daily Dosage: 3-10g in decoction.


Cautions: It is contraindicated in case of early stage of dysentery and damp-heat accumulation.


Notes:

Can also be boiled, shelled, ground and roasted to make acorn coffee but this removes much of its bitter astringent properties.
