Around 33% of coconut milk is oil, of which around 50% is MCT oils and 6-8% of that octanoic acid / caprylic acid. These are converted into ketone bodies that stimulate the shift in metabolism from glycolysis to mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation sought in ketogenic diets and fasts and the C8 variety is the most active in this regard.
Notes:
Coconut oil is easily extracted from coconut milk by simply dissolving in water and waiting for the oil to separate. Due to it being mainly saturated fat, it is not harmed by heat and so makes a good alternative to cooking oils.

Reference Notes:
Individual herb information has sourced mainly from TCM Wiki and American Dragon for basic data and then updated manually with my own notes. Zhou, Xie and Yan (2011): Encyclopedia of Traditional Chinese Medicines, Vol. 5, and A+ Medical Encyclopaedia have been used for entries not available from those sources with additional material searched for and filled in where available. Western herbs not appearing in the Chinese literature have used Ross (2010): Combining Western Herbs and Chinese Medicine: A Clinical Materia Medica, White Rabbit Institute of Healing and therapeutika.ch. Choices of which source to use or combine have been my own.
