Traditional Chinese terminology for intermittent fevers and chills which recur at regular intervals and has become synonymous with malaria in modern parlance although it may also refer to disorders with similar presentations. It is separate from alternating chills and fevers (寒熱往來, Han Re Wang Lai) associated with Shaoyang Disharmony that alternate at irregular intervals including several times in a single day. It was originally called Zhang Nue (瘴瘧, Miasmic Malaria) or Shan Lan Zhang Nue (山嵐瘴瘧, Mountain Mist Miasmic Malaria) due it being understood as an external invasion from the mists arising from stagnant pools of water.
