Pattern: Blood Stasis due to traumatic injury to the Liver Vital Points during the Chou 丑 hours of the Ox (1 - 3 am)

Key Symptoms: Flank pain and weakness of the sinews due to traumatic injury to the Liver Vital Points during the Chou 丑 Ox hours (1 - 3 am).
Secondary Symptoms: The Vital Points associated with the Chou Liver Ox hours in the Wu Bei Zhi are: Tianding LI-17, Shenmen Bl-62, Shangguan GB-3, Taichong Liv-3, Zhangmen Liv-13, Qimen Liv-14, Shenque Ren-8 and Shenting Du-24

Xu Duan 3.75g
Niu Xi 3.75g (Huai)
Chuan Xiong 3.75g (fried)
Dang Gui 7.5g
Sheng Di Huang 7.5g
Jiu Cai 3.75g
Gou Qi Zi 7.5g


Preparation: No preparation information is given in the original so may have been given internally or as a poultice.


Actions: Activates Blood, stops bleeding and alleviates pain, disperses Wind, nourishes Blood and strengthens the sinews.

Symptoms have been inferred from the organs which are affected and the effects of the herbs prescribed as the original provides nothing beyond these formulas being used for injury to these channels. The herbs themselves are presented only in Latin at a species level by McCarthy so a reverse translation has had to applied which may not always be precise.
