One Shell Decoction to Restore the Pulse

Category: Formulas that Expel Wind

Pattern: Damage to the true Yin in the Lower Jiao from a Warm Pathogen Disorder (Wen Bing) being unable to control Yang when the stools move.

Key Symptoms: Sudden diarrhoea after being constipated for several days during a Warm Pathogen Disease.
Secondary Symptoms: Fever, thirst, flushed face, five palms heat.


Ingredients

Zhi Gan Cao 18g
Sheng Di Huang 18g
Bai Shao 18g
Mai Men Dong 15g
Huo Ma Ren 9g
E Jiao 9g
Mu Li 9g

Subsitutions:
In the UK all shells must be substituted due to the laws on using animal products. Some common substitutions include:
Mu Li == Bai Shao + Xuan Shen + Wu Wei Zi


Preparation: Decoction.


Actions: Nourishes the Yin, clears Heat, stops diarrhoea

Contraindications: Caution in patients with diarrhoea due to Spleen Yang or Stomach Qi deficiency.
