Pattern: Paralysis due to Wind Strike (中風, Zhong Feng) attacking the Channels

Key Symptoms: Distortion of the face, stiff tongue, inability to speak, difficulty in moving the hands and feet.

Tongue: Whitish coat
Pulse: Floating


Ingredients

Qin Jiao 4-90g
Gan Cao 2-60g
Chuan Xiong 2-60g
Dang Gui 2-60g
Bai Shao 2-60g
Xi Xin 1-15g
Qiang Huo 2-30g
Fang Feng 2-30g
Huang Qin 2-30g
Shi Gao 4-60g
Bai Zhi 2-60g
Bai Zhu 2-30g
Sheng Di Huang 2-30g
Shu Di Huang 2-30g
Fu Ling 2-30g
Du Huo 2-60g

Subsitutions:
In the UK Xi Xin and Shi Gao must be substituted. For Xi Xin the dose of Qiang Huo may be increased and Gui Zhi added. Shi Gao may be best substituted with Zhi Mu.


Preparation: All the ingredients are ground into a fine powder and 30g is decocted in water to be taken twice daily. May also be prepared as a decoction with appropriate modifications in dosage.


Actions: Dispels Wind, clears Heat, dredges the channels, nourishes and invigorates the Blood

Contraindications: The pungent herbs in this decoction may easily damage the Yin and Blood so dosages should be modified accordingly.
