Glossary
Doorways to the Earth (地門, Di Men)
A set of twelve points located around the groin and legs that regulate the lower orifices and are indicated for disharmony in the lower body with downward rebellion and sinking of Qi or Blood. They are not mentioned in the early classics but rather developed by Jeffrey Yuen as a counterpoint to the Windows of Heaven and are usually confluent points of the Divergent Meridians.
They are:
| Yangming & Earth |
| Qichong St-30 | Raises Yin upwards to the pelvis to treat swelling and pain in the genitals |
| Chongmen Sp-12 | Inability to urinate |
| Pelvis & Du/Ren Mai |
| Chengjiang Du-1 | Raises Yang to treat haemorrhoids |
| Mingmen Du-4 | Tonifies Yang to treat intestinal prolapse |
| Huiyang Bl-35 | Warms the Interior to treat leukorrhea and leakage in the Lower Jiao from Deficiency Cold |
| Huiyin Ren-1 | Clears Empty Heat to treat anal swelling and genital itch |
| Qugu Ren-2 | Raises Yin to treat leukorrhea and leakage in the Lower Jiao |
| Guanyan Ren-4 | Tonifies Yin |
They may also be combined with
Window of Heaven points to balance above and below.
A different way of determining this grouping that is more in line with the Window of Heaven points as used in the Neijing would be to determine the points where pulses are felt in the lower body. This would imply:
The femoral pulse:
Jimai Liv-12
Chongmen Sp-12
Qichong St-30
The popliteal pulse:
Weizhong Bl-40
The dorsalis pedis pulse:
Chongyang St-42
Taichong Liv-3
The posterior tibial pulse:
Taixi Kid-3
Radial pulse:
Taiyuan Lu-9
Princeps pollicis pulse:
Hegu LI-4
These last two may seem unusual as they are on the upper limb, but in the Renying-Cunkou pulse system of Ling Shu ch. 9, the radial pulse represents the relative strength of Yin, while the carotid represents the relative strength of Yang, and when the arms are by the sides, these pulses are actually level with the waist. Alternatively they could be considered the pulses that correspond to Man in a Heaven-Man-Earth paradigm, although a paradigm similar to this is already expounded in Su Wen ch. 20, on The Three Sections and Nine Indicators.
