Zhi Xue Bu Shang Fang

Stop Bleeding and Mend Injuries Formula

Key Symptoms: Pain and bleeding from knife or arrow wounds, being tampled by a horse or hit by something


Ingredients

Bai Fu Zi 36g (fresh)
Bai Zhi 3g
Tian Ma 3g
Tian Nan Xing 3g (fresh)
Fang Feng 3g
Qiang Huo 3g

Subsitutions:
Fresh Bai Fu Zi is toxic and so may be unavailable in unprocessed form, or undesirable for common use. It is often substituted with Tian Nan Xing whose dose can be increased, or other herbs that stop bleeding be included such as Bai Ji, San Qi or Pu Huang.


Preparation: Grind it all together into an extremely fine powder and apply it to the broken site. If the damage is serious, soak the powder in yellow liquor and have the patient take 3g internally. If there is black and blue swelling, mix it with water and apply it.


Actions: Stop bleeding, regulate the Blood and remove obstructions from the Channels and Collaterals.



Notes:
This formula is actually identical to True Jade Powder (Chen Shi-Gong, 1617, Orthodox Lineage of External Medicine) except applied externally for bleeding wounds instead of internally for tetanus.
