Pattern: Susceptibility to Wind Strike due to Wei Qi Deficiency

Key Symptoms: Susceptibility to colds and flus
Secondary Symptoms: Propensity to spontaneous sweating, aversion to cold

Tongue: Pale with white coating
Pulse: Thin and weak, may also be tight or slow


Ingredients

Shan Yao 90g
Dang Gui 90g
Gui Zhi 90g
Sheng Di Huang 90g
Da Dou Huang Juan 90g
Gan Cao 30g
Ren Shen 84g
Chuan Xiong 21g
Bai Shao 21g
Bai Zhu 21g
Mai Men Dong 21g
Xing Ren 21g
Chai Hu 18g
Jie Geng 18g
Fu Ling 18g
E Jiao 15g
Gan Jiang 21g
Bai Lian 9g
Fang Feng 18g
Da Zao 100 pcs (to make a paste)


Preparation: Ground into powder and form into a paste with honey. Make into pills the size of marbles (approx 3g) and take one pill, twice a day, on an empty stomach with wine.


Actions: Replenishes Qi and Nourishes Blood, disperses Wind and Pathogenic Qi

Contraindications: Purely excess patterns



Notes:
Shu Yu is an alternative name for Shan Yao.

This formula is also sometimes known as Bu Xin Qi Shu Yu Wan 補心氣薯蕷丸 (Tonify the Heart Qi with Dioscorea Pills).

Contained within this formula are several others including:

and probably several others. It also contains Ba Zhen Tang and therefore Si Jun Zi Tang and Si Wu Tang although these are later formulae which may have been inspired by this and not the rationale behind its construction.
